Average size of a bungalow

When it comes to bungalows, not all regions of the UK are created equal. The average size of a bungalow varies significantly across the UK.

Northern Ireland leads the way with the most spacious bungalows, averaging 1,170 sq.ft. Close behind is Scotland at 1,022 sq.ft. Wales comes in at 961 sq.ft, followed by London (946 sq.ft), the South West and South East (both 945 sq.ft).

The East Midlands and East Anglia are more modest at 893 sq.ft and 903 sq.ft respectively, while the West Midlands averages 904 sq.ft. The North West and North East sit at 909 sq.ft and 907 sq.ft respectively.

Yorkshire & the Humber takes the wooden spoon with the smallest average bungalow size of just 875 sq.ft,  that’s 295 sq.ft smaller than Northern Ireland. To put that into context, that’s the size of an additional 17 ft by 17ft double bedroom!

This 34% difference in space is far from trivial. So, if you’re planning to downsize into a bungalow, it might pay to look a little further afield than your usual patch???

Would you sacrifice location for space?
